Case Study H : Product
Testing (Salt Spray))
This case study describes,
in general detail, the development of an in-house salt
spray testing facility to recognised international standards. This unit was
designed to provide three testing chambers with a method of operation based
on the previous single unit which was to be
replaced.
It was
imperative to ensure that the nozzle spray rates, corrosive solution concentrations and
venting operations performed correctly to provide the specified corrosive
environment
. Suitable pressure vessels and
solution feed apparatus was purpose designed for the application.
The units were housed in a purpose built facility which needed to
conform to all local building and Occupational Safety and Health
(OSH) requirements.
The system was
incorporated into a computerised network in order to enable remote
monitoring and manipulation if necessary.
The computerised system also
provided an effective means for greater detailed recording
of test data.
