Typical Ducting System and Feed to Re-pulper

Case Study F : Pneumatic Conveying - Paper Mill

This case study describes, in general detail, the development of a pneumatic conveying system for paper trim process re-cycling. Several trimming machines in a paper mill were connected via an integrated ducting system to collect continuous strips of paper trim from various trim rollers. These continuous strips were ducted to a chopper fan which then fed the material through the final ducting section to the re-pulping unit.

Several actuated diverter valves, forming part of an integral control system for the factory, provided greater control over the feed to the re-pulping unit. This system completely eliminated time consuming and labour intensive manual transport of the waste to the re-pulping unit. Further time and labour saving was achieved at the re-pulping unit, including an improvement in Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) practices.
